This one based on a quote by Rachel Carson about wonder and excitement. I love how this brings together things that I care a lot about and which are shaping the way I live and work right now: outside education, joy in learning, mentoring the young, being curious and grateful and – last but not least – comics.
And this advice for beginners from Ira Glass.
It is so true. I have just run several drawing workshops for children. One of my main tasks was to pass on exactly that message. Start, keep going, it takes time, you will get there.
And although all children seem to start making marks as soon as they can hold a crayon (or stick in the sand), when you get to the stage where there is “something” you want to draw “in a certain way”, it will take an awful lot of drafts.
And this is from personal experience. I have years of drawing yet till I can create those comics that I have in my head.
And I am just going to keep going.
