On Saturday 6th December 2014, I attended an excellent – and important – exhibition on show at Moderna Museet Malmö that was created by the S.A.Y. (stories – art – youth) project in Malmö and curated by Ana Maria Bermeo Ujueta.
A Wounded Dream presents the work of young people in Malmö, giving a voice to their experiences and equally calls into question the idea of the “artist” as a white West European or US-American man who studied at art school and whose works sell for a ton of money.
It is impossible to not mention Joseph Beuys in this connection. Art does not exist outside of the context of its society. Who has power? What gets talked about? Why? And how?
